Virtual Curriculum
Curriculum 2000® completely integrates basic science and clinical education across the four years of education. An objective of the curriculum is to prepare students for the information technology they will encounter in clinical practice. Virtual Curriculum 2000® (VC2000) is an electronic adjunct which integrates the fundamentals of the curriculum and serves to:
- Familiarize students with technology as an educational tool for lifelong learning,
- Transition students to the use of technology for clinical purposes,
- Teach students to use technology for research, collaboration, and communication in medicine, and
- Provide an online dynamic database to track curriculum content and faculty time and provide a foundation for the evaluation process.
The Virtual Curriculum® is available 24 hours a day online via the University of Pennsylvania Health System Intranet and, by special request, via restricted Internet access.
Virtual Curriculum 2000® options:
- Evaluation of curriculum blocks - Provides student feedback of curriculum blocks.
- Week-by-week schedule - Allows students to see a week-by-week breakdown of their class schedule and locate their sections.
- Virtual lectures - Online, real-time video and synchronized audio and slides of all medical school lectures.
- Bulletin boards - An electronic bulletin board for each course facilitates communication between students and faculty. Course-specific questions regarding lecture material may be posted and are answered by faculty when appropriate. Students are encouraged to answer any questions, which fosters a collegial and noncompetitive learning environment.
- Technical support - Technical support for Virtual Curriculum 2000® is available from FAQ, Help!, and Announcement pages. Support personnel are also available by phone and e-mail.
