From the Vice Dean of Medical Education:

Dear Prospective Student,

As the nation's first medical school and hospital, we have a long standing commitment to education, research and patient care. Our commitment to education requires that we not only educate our students in the basic and clinical science of medicine to meet the health care needs of their patients but to address the concerns of our current health care environment. You will be faced with ethical issues not previously encountered by physicians. The current crisis in the cost of health care has had a definite impact on the way we practice medicine. We are committed to preparing our students to meet these challenges and to be the future leaders of the medical community.

We continue to be at the forefront of major educational innovation by providing a comprehensive curriculum that can be designed to fit an individual's career goal, be it research, clinical practice, or a dual degree program. Our faculty are truly dedicated to this curriculum and continue to develop new methods of education and evaluation to improve the medical student's experience.

Our goal is to provide you the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. You are the future of our profession, the ones who will take the lead in charting the course of medical care for the next several decades. You will be faced with issues that we cannot even predict at this point. It is our belief that your medical education at Penn will prepare you to meet this challenge.
