Sylvan M. Cohen Annual Retreat with Poster Session on Aging 2009
The 2009 Sylvan M. Cohen Annual Retreat with Poster Session on Aging will take place May 12, 2009, in Houston Hall here on Penn's campus.
The IOA will be partnering with the Institute for Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism (IDOM) to present the 2009 retreat and poster session.
The focus for 2009 was on "The Interface of the Aging Brain and Metabolic Disorders."
Please note that the lectures will be designed for a scientific and healthcare professional audience. As unpublished research will be presented during the retreat, there will not be any streaming video available afterwards. There is no charge to attend and the public is welcome.
The Speakers at the 2009 Annual Retreat
Serving as the Sylvan M. Cohen Visiting Scholar is Bruce Yankner, MD, MPH, Professor of Pathology and Neurology at Harvard Medical School, who will present "Epigenetic Reprogramming of the Aging Brain and Pancreas."
Our featured PENN presenters are Anne Cappola, MD, ScM, and Joseph Baur, PhD. Dr. Cappola will discuss "Metabolic Changes in the Frailty Syndrome" while Dr. Baur, a new faculty recruit to PENN, will speak about his work in "Caloric Restriction, Metabolism, and Aging."
The Poster Session
The annual Poster Sesson on Aging will follow the lectures and is open to all who wish to participate. Posters on aging and aging-related disease research in basic science, clinical science, education and outreach and other areas are welcome. Prizes will be awarded to the top posters in each category.
