IOA 2009 Annual Retreat with Poster Session on AgingThe 2009 Sylvan M. Cohen Annual Retreat with Poster Session on Aging will take place May 12, 2009, in Houston Hall here on Penn's campus.

The IOA will be partnering with the Institute for Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism (IDOM) to present the 2009 retreat and poster session.

The focus for 2009 was on "The Interface of the Aging Brain and Metabolic Disorders."

Please note that the lectures will be designed for a scientific and healthcare professional audience. As unpublished research will be presented during the retreat, there will not be any streaming video available afterwards. There is no charge to attend and the public is welcome.

The Speakers at the 2009 Annual Retreat

Serving as the Sylvan M. Cohen Visiting Scholar is Bruce Yankner, MD, MPH, Professor of Pathology and Neurology at Harvard Medical School, who will present "Epigenetic Reprogramming of the Aging Brain and Pancreas."

Our featured PENN presenters are Anne Cappola, MD, ScM, and Joseph Baur, PhD. Dr. Cappola will discuss "Metabolic Changes in the Frailty Syndrome" while Dr. Baur, a new faculty recruit to PENN, will speak about his work in "Caloric Restriction, Metabolism, and Aging."

The Poster Session

The annual Poster Sesson on Aging will follow the lectures and is open to all who wish to participate. Posters on aging and aging-related disease research in basic science, clinical science, education and outreach and other areas are welcome. Prizes will be awarded to the top posters in each category.

Registration is required to attend and/or present a poster. Lunch will be provided to those who register.

Agenda

The day's events will begin at 11:30am with lunch for those registered and will conclude at 5:30pm. Lectures will take place from 12:30pm to 3:30pm, with the Poster Session reception immediately following. Poster winners will be announced around 5pm.

A final agenda will be announced in the coming weeks.

Where can I park?

Parking is available at the Palestra lot, entered off of 33rd Street (one way North). Please note that due to reconstruction of the South Street Bridge, the Schuylkill Expressway exit at South Street is closed. The parking fee is $12. It is recommended that visitors to campus take Septa as parking is limited.
