Pilot Research Grant Program
The IOA Pilot Grant program is a highly valued component of the IOA serving to support new faculty entering the field of aging and to stimulate multi-disciplinary projects that focus the diverse expertise at the University of Pennsylvania toward aging research. In doing so, the IOA aims to foster the exploration of new directions in the field of aging on a broader scale.
About the Program
In 2005, the IOA Pilot Grant Program awarded three research grants within the Penn School of Medicine and, for the first time, co-sponsored a grant with the Penn School of Nursing. Beginning in 2006, with the generous support of The Bingham Trust, the IOA was able to double the number of full Pilot Research Grants given each year to eligible faculty from any of the 12 Schools at the University of Pennsylvania. Pilot Research Awardees come primarily from the Penn School of Medicine, but grants have been awarded to researchers in the Penn School of Veterinary Medicine, Penn School of Nursing Science, and Penn School of Arts and Sciences. Applications are welcome and are considered from any of Penn's Schools.
The IOA Pilot Grant Program provides initial support in basic science and clinical areas in aging for investigators engaged in biomedical, epidemiological, behavioral or health services research. A salient goal is to assist Penn faculty in obtaining preliminary data to serve as the basis for grant applications to the NIH or other public or private agencies concerned with aging. Research Grants are given in the maximum amount of $50,000.
