Advancing Medical Education
|
Ensuring America's First Medical School Remains One of Its Finest - and Most Advanced
Providing a world-class medical education is vital to safeguarding
the health of our nation and the world. No institution
has been doing this longer or with greater standards of
excellence than the University of Pennsylvania. The physicians
and researchers educated at Penn will always set the
pace for health care and biomedical discovery. To ensure
our continued leadership in the field, we must provide our
students and faculty with an updated medical school facility
that befits their talent and skills. |
“Building the Medical Education Center is our most important priority. This new facility is critical to advancing our educational mission and helping Penn continue to attract the caliber of individuals who will become the world’s leaders in
patient care and research.”
– ARTHUR RUBENSTEIN, MBBCH,
Executive Vice President of the
University of Pennsylvania for the Health System and Dean of the School of Medicine |

New Treatments, New Techniques Demand New Physical Environments
The science and practice of medicine are changing more
rapidly than ever before. The drive towards patient-centered
care, with its multi-disciplinary approach, is transforming
how medicine is taught. Our classrooms need to be flexible
and technology-friendly to reflect medicine’s new emphasis
on team-learning and information-sharing. The Penn Medicine community has worked together to create
new patient care and research facilities. Now, our educational
campus needs to upgrade and adapt to provide both the
leading-edge technology and collaborative environment that
will continue to make our students extraordinary healers.

A New Learning Environment for the 21st Century
The proposed Medical Education Center will be formed by
upgrading and renovating existing structures to create a new
and distinctive campus presence for Penn Medicine. This
state-of-the-art, flexible learning environment will provide
our talented students with the tools and technologies to
best prepare them for biomedical careers in the 21st century.
It will also be a capstone to the remarkable developments
on the Penn Medicine campus, which have included the
Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced
Medicine, the Roberts Proton Therapy Center and the
Anne and Jerome Fisher Translational Research Center. |
“We are designing the new Medical Education Center to help our students learn how to develop broader solutions
to health and societal challenges.”
– GAIL MORRISON, M’71, FEL’76
Vice Dean for Education and
Director of the Office of Academic Programs |

Ensuring the Legacy of a Penn Education
For over two centuries, the brightest minds in the nation
have filled the halls of the University of Pennsylvania School
of Medicine. Our students, faculty and innovative curriculum
are second to none. To maintain the standards of excellence
that are synonymous with Penn, our physical campus must
evolve to keep pace with the revolutionary changes in the
teaching and practice of medicine. |
