Medical Alumni Advisory Council

The Medical Alumni Advisory Council serves as the executive arm of the Medical Alumni Society, executing the society’s purposes and goals, and formulating its policies. The council's mission is to:
-
Advance the cause of medical education and health.

Promote interest in the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Facilitate acquaintance and camaraderie among members of the society and the student body of the School of Medicine and Center through participation in the Home Hospitality or HOST (Host Our Students as they Travel) programs.

Provide a forum for interaction and for promoting the objectives and interests of the School of Medicine by hosting or attending alumni events, such as periodic regional alumni meetings, alumni gatherings at national specialty meetings, and the annual Medical Alumni Weekend.

Support and encourage others to support the School of Medicine and the Medical Alumni Society through annual giving and special fundraising campaigns.

Participation
Officers
Council officers consist of a president and a president-elect who serve a two-year term.
Members
Each member serves a three-year term.
Ex-officio Members
With the exception of voting, ex-officio members enjoy all the rights and privileges of other members. An ex-officio member may choose to step down from the Medical Alumni Advisory Council at any time.
Student Representative
A student representative acts as a liaison between the Medical Alumni Society and the student body. |
Subcommittees
Fundraising Committee
Darryl Landis, Chair, M'89
The Fundraising Committee works closely with the Office of Alumni Development and Alumni Relations to identify and engage fellow alumni in fundraising efforts for the School of Medicine. Members also assist in cultivating and soliciting parents and friends in support of School of Medicine campaign initiatives.
Student Outreach and Networking Committee

The Student Outreach and Networking Committee works with the Office of Alumni Development and Alumni Relations to identify and facilitate new opportunities to strengthen the relationship between alumni and the School of Medicine. Members assist in identifying ways to engage students with alumni, providing students with networking opportunities and a chance to develop mentors. This subcommittee assists with the following programs:
- HOST (Host Our Students as they Travel)
- RX for Residency
- Women in Medicine
- Reunion committees
Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee works closely with the Office of Alumni Development and Alumni Relations to identify alumni for recognition of their service to the School of Medicine and the alumni community. Recognition includes the Alumni Service Award, the Young Alumni Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Nominating Committee also works closely with the Alumni Office to identify, nominate and recruit new members for the Medical Alumni Advisory Council.
