Description of Research Expertise

My current research interests investigate the role of metabolism and obesity in the expression of protein tyrosine phosphatases. The phosphatase of regenerating liver (PRL) family of protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTP) play an important role in cancer metastasis and are being researched as biomarkers. This is substantiated by the several reports that show PRL expression is consistently elevated in most metastatic cancer as well as some primary tumors. In particular, PRL1, PRL2, and PRL3 (also known as PTP4A1, PTP4A2 and PTP4A3) are suggested to play a key role in oncogenic and metastatic phenotypes.
