Description of Research Expertise

Founding member and Chair of the Children's Hospitals Neonatal Consortium (CHNC), a benchmarking organzation of neonatologists working in children's hospitals NICU's. CHNC partnered with the Child Health Corporation of America (now the Childrens Hospitals Association)to develop the Children's Hospitals Neonatal Database, a data repository for infants cared for in Level IV NICU's which was launched in 2010. The CHNC's mission is to improve care and outcomes for infants cared for in quaternary NICU's. The CHND has become the largest clincial data repository in the world for infants with uncommon to rare neonatal diseases, has had 8 peer reviewed articles published or accepted within the past 9 months and is running its 2nd national quality improvement collaborative.

Description of Clinical Expertise

At the national level (CHND, VON and the Children's Surgical Taskforce) I am working on developing clinical pathways and care standards for infants with uncommon diseases. Locally I have been making a major effort to develop a clincal pathway process in the division so that both in the network and at CHOP we can optimize our care for both quality outcomes and value.

Description of Other Expertise

I have a broad knowledge of pediatric clinical programmatic needs and facility design particularly in neonatal/perinatal care and provided consultation to organizations, initially on a volunteer basis internationally in Bosnia-Herzogovina, Romania and China. Subsequently I have provided similar services for CHOP International for CHOP partnerships or proposed partnerships in Saudi Arabia, India, China and the United Arab Emirates.
