Description of Research Expertise

Medical image analysis, medical imaging physics, rigid and deformable image registration, 2D-3D image registration, image segmentation, statistical estimation theory, optimization techniques, pattern recognition and machine learning.

I am interested in the development of new image analysis and computational techniques to allow more accurate treatment and a better understanding of cancer. My research is focused in three areas: 1) the development of image registration algorithms for IGRT for prostate cancer and for brain tumors, 2) the study of toxicity after radiation therapy and the development of new normal tissue complication probability models that take into account the spatial and morphological characteristics of complex radiation dose distributions as well as dose volume characteristics, 3) the study of brain gliomas using quantitative imaging markers to better understand how gliomas progress with time.
