Description of Clinical Expertise

Dr. Srinivasan is a full-time attending physician at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at CHOP. The PICU at CHOP is a 55-bed tertiary care medical/surgical unit with approximately 3700 admissions every year and serves the Delaware Valley region of south-eastern Pennsylvania and adjoining southern New Jersey with national international referrals. The PICU offers advanced modes of ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, surfactant therapy, continuous and intermittent renal replacement therapies, extracorporeal life support therapy and advanced modes of blood exchanges. The PICU offers an accredited 3 year fellowship program supervised by board-certified PICU faculty members. The PICU manages all patients with close input from multiple consulting services and sub-specialties.

Description of Research Expertise

Dr. Srinivasan is engaged in research in endocrinopathies and nutrition in critically ill children. He is a Co-Investigator (10% effort) and local site PI on the NHLBI funded Heart and Lung Failure - Pediatric Insulin Titration (HALF-PINT) study (NHLBI/HL107681 PI: Agus/Nadkarni) involving multiple PALISI sites. He is also site PI for the ancillary study Coagulation and Fibrinolysis - Pediatric Insulin Titration (CAF-PINT) with HALF-PINT. Locally, he studies the association of stress hyperglycemia/ blood glucose variability with key outcomes in the PICU population. Dr. Srinivasan also seeks to improve anthropometry measurements and delivery of enteral nutrition in the PICU population. He is PI of a CHOP CTRC supported study on measurement and validation of resting energy expenditure in children chronically mechanically ventilated via tracheostomy. He is collaborating with Dr. Katri Typpo (University of Arizona) to study the role of biomarkers of effects of enteral nutrition on intestinal epithelium (BEENIE) involving multiple PALISI sites as ancillary to the HALF-PINT study.
