Description of Research Expertise

My research focuses on two broad areas: (1) Intersection of physical and mental health among persons with HIV and cancers, and (2) Preference assessment and patient-centered care interventions to improve quality of care. I conduct clinical trials, prospective studies and secondary data analysis to study important questions related to mental health, substance abuse (including opioids), HIV, and cancers, and their health outcomes, including disparities. My expertise is in the use of Medicare, SEER-Medicare, Medicaid and Veterans Health Administration data. I am also actively involved in development of decision-aids for preference assessment intervention and their implications for patient-centered care.
