CVI Research Description:
Cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway is targeted by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Increased cardiovascular hazards are associated with some of these drugs. Cardiovascular function of COX pathway is studied in vivo to elucidate its role in atherosclerosis, thrombosis, blood pressure and aneurysms. Particular interest is given to therapeutic target selection in COX downstream isomerases and receptors activated by prostaglandins. Currently, lipidomic, genomic and proteomic approaches are being integrated in mice to complementstudies of the role of bioactive lipids in human physiology and disease.
