Description of Itmat Expertise
Dr. Rosas's primary research focus is on cardiovascular disease in patients with chronic kidney disease including the role of novel risk factors in the development and progression of atherosclerosis. Oxidative stress, inflammation, mineral and lipid metabolism are of particular interest. She studies the impact of vascular calcification in morbidity and mortality in chronic kidney disease. She is currently performing a randomized control trial to assess the differential effect of different types of activated vitamin D in progression of coronary calcification. She is an ancillary Principal Investigator to the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC, a multicenter study of 3600 participants with CKD sponsored by NIH. She is evaluating how novel and traditional cardiovascular risk factors affect atherosclerosis measured by carotid intima-media thickness and plaque.
