Description of Itmat Expertise

My primary clinical and research interest lies in prenatal imaging of the fetus and placenta. I'm also interested in prenatal markers of increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Description of Research Expertise

My primary research interest involves antenatal tools to identify pregnancy risk and guide clinical management. Much of my recent work has focused on exploring novel placental imaging techniques in pregnancy including ultrasound-based, MRI and optical imaging. As the complex mechanisms that lead to adverse pregnancy outcomes remain poorly understood, I believe in the utility of collaboration with other related scientific disciplines to leverage available technologic advances towards a deeper understanding of human pregnancy pathophysiology as well as towards developing clinical tools that enhance the care of our patients.

In addition, I have a strong interest in medical technology and innovation to develop tools that advance the care for our patients. One primary example is our work with remote fetal monitoring device, which seeks to help high risk patients access the monitoring they need from their own home, helping patient overcome some of the barriers to accessing care that can negatively impact outcomes.
