Description of Itmat Expertise
Immunology, primary immune deficiencies, eosinophilic disordersDescription of Other Expertise
During his allergy and immunology training, Dr. Soule served as the fellow representative to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, Allergy and Immunology Residency Review Committee. He was also an associate reviewer for Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. He now serves as the Associate Program Director for the Allergy/Immunology Training Program and is a frequent reviewer for the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.Description of Research Expertise
Prior to joining the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Soule conducted research on neutrophil biology and neutrophil-associated disorders including Chronic Granulomatous Disease at the National Institutes of Health. This work included an extension of his prior investigations into microRNA biology and the cellular response to ionizing radiation. Dr. Soule is the Principle Investigator for two ongoing clinical studies at the NIH. The first study is designed to determine the risk of atherosclerosis in patients with Chronic Granulomatous Disease using advanced non-invasive imaging techniques. The second study will investigate the biochemical changes that occur when patients with Chronic Granulomatous Disease are treated with interferon-gamma. Dr. Soule is also involved with a research protocol headed by Dr. Soma Jyonouchi at CHOP looking at the safety of administering interleukin (IL)-2 to patients with Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome. He is also the Principle Investigator of two studies at the University of Pennsylvania. The first is a collaborative study with the NIH and Glaxo Smith Kline of anti-IL5 monoclonal antibody therapy (Mepolizumab) in the treatment of hypereosinophilic syndrome. The second is a study of the role of allergic sensitization in patients with eosinophilic esophagitis for which he also serves as a mentor for the Allergy/Immunology fellow participating in the study.Selected Publications
