The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Neurology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure research track. The successful applicant will have experience in the field of Pediatric Epilepsy Research with a focus on Biophysics, Neuroscience and or Bioengineering. Responsibilities include participation as an active member of the interdisciplinary research team within the department and development of an independent research program involving novel approaches such as optical sensing and imaging, nanophotonics, spectroscopy and analytical instrumentation. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in clinical care, research, and education.

The successful candidate is expected to develop advanced optical sensing and imaging technology for high resolution functional brain imaging, design and conduct in vitro and in vivo preclinical research in epilepsy or related field. The applicant should have significant experience with CW and ultrafast lasers and optical spectroscopy as well as with various optical imaging techniques such as second harmonic generation, photon counting, near-field optics, FRAP, FRET, fluorescence lifetime, nanoparticle, fiber optics, and UV photolysis. Programming skills for image analysis, data and signal processing, instrument control, and statistical analysis are required. The successful applicant should also have strong evidence of academic productivity and an excellent publication record.
