The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Assistant, Full, and/or Associate Professor position in the tenure track. Rank will be commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include the ability to establish and maintain independent, extramurally funded research programs in basic mechanisms of sarcoma pathogenesis and progression. Current strengths include cancer genomics, tumor microenvironment, and developmental therapeutics. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree.
This is a joint recruitment of the Center for Childhood Cancer Research (CCCR), and the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute (AFCRI). The faculty appointment will be in the Department of Pediatrics or Cancer Biology or an appropriate department at the Perelman School of Medicine, depending on the scientific expertise of the final candidate. Sufficient postdoctoral or fellowship experience to demonstrate accomplishments, independence, and outstanding promise.
Launched in 2007 as a bold initiative aimed at curing more patients with childhood cancer, the CCCR is a Center of Emphasis at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute. It represents a highly integrated basic, translational, and clinical research environment dedicated to eradicating the pain and suffering caused by cancer in children. John Maris, MD, and internationally recognized expert in pediatric oncology, is the inaugural Director for the CCCR. The CCCR is located in the newly-constructed, state-of-the-art Colket Translational Research Building, certified as Leadership in Energy and Environment Design by the U.S. Green Building Council. It is the first in a series of buildings to be constructed on Children’s Hospital’s new South Campus, adjacent to Penn and in the heart of the University City District of Philadelphia. Philadelphia is a historic city offering a unique blend of centuries-old architecture, vibrant culture, diverse outdoors opportunities, and an outstanding quality of life.
The Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute (AFCRI) was established in 1997 through an initial $100m gift from Leonard and Madlyn Abramson. The Institute serves as a forum for integrating cancer research, education, and patient care in partnership with the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. The AFCRI seeks to promote basic science excellence while transforming scientific breakthroughs into innovating treatments as quickly as possible. As Scientific Director of the AFCRI, M. Celeste Simon, Ph.D. leads an accomplished faculty who hold a variety of leadership roles across undergraduate, graduate, medical, and postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania.
