The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure research track. Responsibilities include designing and fabrication of biomedical devices, experimental apparatus, and associated software, development of numerical and animal physiological models, experimental design and hypothesis testing, data analysis, and statistical analysis, submission of research proposals to federal, non-profit, and corporate funding agencies, preparation of manuscripts and presentations, writing of animal protocols, management of engineering personnel and equipment, writing of invention disclosures and patents, participation in center administrative duties. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree.
Applicants must have 3-5 years of experience in cardiovascular or resuscitation research, and experience in translational research programs. Research experience in therapeutic hypothermia, particularly in the area of phase change coolants preferred. Experience with novel patient monitoring targeting critical care medicine is required and experience with cellular metabolism is preferred. Demonstrable experience in signal processing and biomedical device development is preferred. Candidates must be able to develop externally funded research programs.
