The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure academic-clinician track. The successful applicant will have experience in the field of Clinical Pathology with a focus on Molecular Genetics. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in clinical care and education. The successful candidate must be board eligible or certified with either the 1) American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology or 2) American Board of Medical Genetics in both Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics. Physicians must be eligible/licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and must demonstrate excellent qualifications in clinical care.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 to 4 years of experience in directing a clinical molecular genetics laboratory. Responsibilities will include laboratory administration, data and quality review, clinical consultation, and teaching of residents, medical, and graduate students. A strong background in assay development, validation and implementation of molecular diagnostic tests is required. At least two years of experience with next generation sequencing and development of a clinical bioinformatics pipeline is highly desired. The Molecular Genetics Laboratory is located within The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the candidate will serve as a Scientific Director of this Laboratory.
