Director of Medical Physics
Posting Department: Radiation Oncology
Expire Date: 04/03/2014
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the tenure track. Rank will be commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the Medical Physics Division’s mission; including clinical, educational and research activities. The Director of the Medical Physics Division will serve as a Vice Chair of the Department and is an experienced senior radiation oncology physicist. The Director is expected to be a key part of the senior management team, which oversees the Department’s mission and plans for future development. In addition, the individual selected should have established research and teaching skills combined with leadership and managerial experience.

The Radiation Oncology Department at the University of Pennsylvania main campus is one of the most advanced radiation oncology centers in the world with state-of-the-art equipment. The Department is located in a new facility that opened in the summer of 2008 and incorporates the Roberts Proton Therapy Center immediately adjacent to the department’s photon linear accelerators.

The Department has a CAMPEP approved Medical Physics Residency Program with 6 residents. The Division is also a major collaborator in a CAMPEP approved masters graduate program for medical physicists.

In recent years, division research interests have focused on photodynamic therapy and proton therapy, with physics faculty contributing to translational research through collaboration with physicians in both conventional and proton therapy. Moving forward, we are seeking a Director who can lead the Division towards a broader spectrum of research activities. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research, education, and clinical care.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense.

The University of Pennsylvania is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
