The Department of Microbiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). The successful applicant will have experience in the field of Pathogenesis with a focus on Immunology and Neuroscience. Responsibilities include developing a vigorous research program aimed at interneuronal spread of MHV and its effects on neurovirulence and the immune response in the CNS and will require work in both cultured primary cells and live animals. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research and education.

Familiarity with the derivation and culture of primary CNS cells is a prerequisite, and experience in viral reverse genetics and/or flow cytometry is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to apply for independent research funding.
