Assistant Professor-Clinician-Educator, Clinical Microbiology Laboratory

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure clinician-educator track. The successful applicant will have experience in the field of Clinical Microbiology with a focus on Clinical Virology and nucleic acid testing. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education, research, and clinical care. Board-eligible or certified with either the 1) American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, or Clinical Pathology, with subspecialty certification in Clinical Microbiology or 2) American Board of Medical Microbiology required. Advanced training or certification in Molecular Genetic Pathology is a plus. Physicians must be eligible/licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 to 3 years of experience in Clinical Microbiology with demonstrated responsibilities in Clinical Virology. Responsibilities will include laboratory administration, data and quality review, clinical consultation, assay development, and teaching of residents, medical students, and graduate students. A strong background in assay development, validation and implementation of molecular diagnostic tests is required. The Perelman School of Medicine is known for its significant emphasis on translational research and the candidate will be expected to develop a strong, collaborative research program.
