Research Associate - Tumor Biology

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research.

The main responsibility will be to conduct research in the area of Tumor Microenvironment and the role of the Integrated Stress Response in tumor initiation and progression (see Bi et al., EMBOJ, 2005, Ye et al., EMBOJ 2010; Marotta et al., Cancer Res. 2011).

The successful candidate must have strong research experience in tumor biology, protein biochemistry, molecular biology and assay development and working with animal model systems (preferably both implantable and transgenic). Must have ability to function as part of a team and provide mentoring and guidance to graduate and undergraduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and technicians and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Candidate will be expected to design experiments and assist in the preparation of research grants, progress reports, meeting abstracts and peer-reviewed publications. Animal protocol writing experience is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong planning, organization, and independent decision-making capabilities.
