Chair of Pediatrics Department
Posting Department: Pediatrics
Posted Date: 07/23/2012
Expire Date: 07/23/2014
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for a Full Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician-educator track or the tenure track. Track will be commensurate with experience. Applicants must have an M.D or M.D./Ph.D. degree.
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, both routinely ranked first or second, nationally, among children’s hospitals and research-oriented medical schools, seek a Chair of Pediatrics and Physician-in-Chief to play a critical leadership role in this two billion dollar pediatric healthcare enterprise. The Chair leads one of the largest and most complex pediatric departments in the country and plays a critical role in the leadership of the Hospital. S/he is expected to work closely with the leadership of the medical school and CHOP’s administration to maintain and enhance its excellence in clinical care for children, education programs, and scientific research.
This is one of the premier leadership opportunities in pediatrics, and by virtue of the position, the Chair plays a national leadership role in the field. In a changing healthcare environment, the Chair should set an innovative course for the Department, ensuring its financial stability while maintaining its position at the forefront of clinical and research breakthroughs. Foremost, the Chair will need to maintain the exceptional caliber of faculty talent, both at the division director level as well as throughout the ranks of the Department. S/he will work with CHOP leadership to increase patient value, striving for continuous improvement in quality of care while also leading efforts to maximize efficiency. The Chair will partner with research leaders to identify new and emerging areas of emphasis and to support promising programs. S/he will be a staunch advocate for world-class education programs that are rigorous and innovative. The Chair also will play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of a range of new activities and geographic expansion of programs—all to uphold the continued preeminence of the Department and the long-term growth and fiscal vitality of CHOP more generally.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished leader in academic pediatrics of considerable scientific stature. The Chair should have experience in a comparably large and complex academic medical center in order to quickly grasp the scale of CHOP’s clinical and research programs. S/he will bring an outstanding track record of success working effectively with medical center leadership to implement ambitious clinical and research agendas. The Chair must be able to establish credibility among faculty at CHOP and across the Perelman School of Medicine. S/he must also demonstrate a personal style that facilitates communication and collaboration, along with strong negotiation skills.
We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense.
The University of Pennsylvania and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia are equal opportunity, affirmative action employers.
