DIRECTOR, CENTER FOR PERSONALIZED DIAGNOSTICS
Posting Department: Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Expire Date: 09/25/2014
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in either the tenure track or the non-tenure clinician-educator track. Track and rank will be commensurate with experience. The successful applicant will be accomplished in the area of Cancer Genomics and Personalized Diagnostics. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education, clinical care, and research.

We are seeking a mid-career clinician/scientist to direct the newly created Center For Personalized Diagnostics. The ideal candidate should have a background in diagnostic testing and expertise in high throughput sequencing, functional genomics, bioinformatics, and related areas to provide overall direction for the Center (to support Penn’s needs for clinical sequencing), to direct development of new tests, to hire scientific staff, and to direct research in scientific areas related to cancer genomics and personalized diagnostics.

The newly created Center for Personalized Diagnostics will serve at least two important roles to enhance Penn Medicine’s position in the burgeoning field of personalized medicine. First, the Center will provide clinical grade high throughput sequencing-based diagnostics in a CAP/CLIA environment to enhance our delivery of personalized diagnostics of a wide variety of diseases. Second, the Center will serve as a nidus of faculty expertise in the area of genomic analysis, bioinformatics, cancer genetics, and related areas to facilitate the development of new methods, new technologies, and new applications. We expect the Center faculty to be highly collaborative, serving as a resource for the Penn genetics, genomics, cancer biology, and personalized medicine communities. The Center will also serve as the focal point for training programs for residents, clinical fellows, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in personalized diagnostics. The Director will guide the scientific development and clinical directions of the Center and oversee its training mission. The Director will also be charged with developing a cutting edge research program in their own lab, to be supported by extramural grant funds, and for identifying and pursuing collaborative research efforts that should lead to substantial extramural funding opportunities.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense.

The University of Pennsylvania is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
