The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Responsibilities include coordinating research projects and collaborations in the areas of machine learning and bioinformatics (with a focus on neurodegenerative disorders), as well as assisting with grant management. The position requires an extensive knowledge of developing machine learning tools for biomarker discovery through analyzing clinical data from high-throughput assays such as proteomic arrays, gene expression microarrays and RNA-seq. The successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to work independently in designing and performing experiments, writing of manuscripts and grant proposals, and supervision of technical staff and students. Extensive interactions with other post-docs, students, and technical staff are expected. Skills in R, C++, and Perl programming, experience with microarray and analysis of RNA-seq or other next-generation sequencing experiments, and experience in neurodegeneration and aging research is preferred. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
