Posting Department: Radiology
Posted Date: 11/07/2012
Expire Date: 11/07/2014
The Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). The successful applicant will have experience in the field of Radiology/Biochemistry with a focus on Functional and Metabolic Imaging. Responsibilities include work with standard medical imaging and biochemical assay techniques in conjunction with research methods in which metabolic signal is increased through 'hyperpolarization' (nuclear spin alignment). Extensive understanding of biochemistry is required, both theoretical and with respect to common laboratory techniques (e.g., LC/LS-MS, PCR, immunohistochemistry). A practical knowledge of NMR and MRI techniques is also highly desirable, including pulse sequence development. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research and education.
The position requires scientific leadership of an ongoing project studying organ metabolism in models of early disease, and encompasses isolated cell, organ, and animal studies, in support of future human trials of these noninvasive techniques. A PhD in biochemistry or related fields is required (biology, chemistry, or physics with significant biochemistry experience), and 2+ years of postdoctoral laboratory work. The successful candidate should also have a strong publication record and excellent oral and written communication skills.
We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense.
The University of Pennsylvania is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
