CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY MEDICINE AND COMMUNITY HEALTH
Posting Department:
Expire Date: 02/28/2015
The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Full Professor position in the tenure track. Applicants must have an M.D. and/or Ph.D degree.

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health has a proud and rich combination of academic activities and service contributions. Begun in 1996, the Department has quickly developed excellent residency, fellowship, medical student education, patient care, research, and community service programs.

The mission of the Department is to develop community programs that provide care to the people in Penn's immediate neighborhoods and develop demonstration projects that model health partnerships between academic and community neighbors. The next Chair will be expected to continue these community engagement programs, and work with other clinical leaders to develop innovative primary care programs and research projects that improve health and clinical outcomes. The Department has strong interfaces with many of Penn’s Centers including the Center for Public Health Initiatives (CPHI), the Abramson Cancer Center, the Institute on Aging (IOA), and the Center for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, among others.

The practice provides about 44,000 outpatient visits a year and admits approximately 1,000 inpatients, admitting adults primarily to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) and about 400 mothers and their babies to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). The practice is a component of the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP) and the Chair serves as a member of the Board of Directors of CPUP whose main role is to coordinate the tripartite mission of the 18 clinical departments.
The Department is innovative, academically strong, and community-oriented, exemplifying the Penn Compact — initiated by Penn's President, Dr. Amy Gutmann: Increasing access, integrating knowledge, and engaging locally and globally.

The successful candidate will possess demonstrated leadership skills, dedication to the clinical, research and educational missions including a distinguished clinical and research record in Community Health or Family Medicine and a strong commitment to education and mentorship of students, fellows and faculty. The candidate should express a clear vision of the future of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health in terms of coordinating community health initiatives across the health system, the medical school, and the university.

All interested applicants are invited to send their curriculum vitae and letter of interest to R. Nick Bryan, MD, PhD, Chair, Family Medicine and Community Health Search Committee, c/o Margaret M. Lizotte, Search Committee Coordinator, lizotte@exchange.upenn.edu.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense.

The University of Pennsylvania is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
