The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). The successful applicant will have experience in the field of Radiation Oncology with a focus on Medical Physics. Responsibilities include to conduct research designed to study proton pencil beam scanning treatment planning and develop technical solution for planning and delivery. Must have ability to function as part of a team and provide mentoring and guidance to graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, technicians and visiting scientists and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidate will be expected to have a strong physics, proton therapy and computer science background and assist in the preparation of research grants, progress reports, meeting abstracts and peer-reviewed publications. Code writing, Monte Carlo simulation and in beam data measurements will be performed. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong planning, organization, and independent decision-making capabilities. Authorship of manuscripts and conference presentation of study results are expected. Applicants must have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree.
