The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). The successful applicant will have experience in the field of Organic Chemistry with a focus on optical spectroscopic techniques. Responsibilities include The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). The candidate should have experience in synthetic Organic Chemistry with focus on synthesis of porphyrins and dendrimers. Special preference will be given to persons with working knowledge of optical spectroscopic techniques. Responsibilities include independently designing and carrying out synthesis of dendritic phosphorescent probes for oxygen for biological oxygen measurements and performing their photophysical characterization under the direction of the principal investigator. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research.
The successful candidate is also expected to advise graduate students in projects related to the use of phosphorescence in oxygen imaging. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research.
