The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). The successful applicant will have experience in the field of Organic Chemistry. Responsibilities include The candidate will have experience in synthetic Organic Chemistry with focus on the design and synthesis of proteins, knowledge of the chemistry of light and redox active cofactors and their assembly in designed proteins. Preference will be given to candidates with working knowledge of spectroscopic and molecular biological techniques. Responsibilities include independently designing and construction of manmade light and redox active proteins; also on their expression and biogenesis in living cells; and functional testing in vitro and in vivo. Applicants must have an Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research and education.
The successful candidate is also expected to advise graduate students in projects related to the design and construction of manmade redox proteins.
