The Department of Pharmacology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Research Associate position in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). The successful applicant will have experience in the field of Pharmacology and Biochemistry & Biophysics with a focus on site-directed mutagenesis, protein engineering, protein expression, x-ray crystallography, enzymology, transient kinetics (stopped-flow spectrometry), molecular and kinetic modeling. Responsibilities include assuming project lead on structure-function studies of steroid transforming AKRs to investigate functional genomics of inherited mutations that lead to deficiency syndromes; and functional genomics on single nucleotide polymorphisms. Candidate will be responsible for training junior personnel, drafting manuscripts and instrument maintenance; and updating the AKR web-page. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research.
Candidate must have a PhD in the biomedical sciences; Experience working with human aldo-keto reductases (AKRs) desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills essential.
