About the Department
Posting Department: Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Expire Date: 07/26/2015
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in the non-tenure clinician-educator track. Rank will be commensurate with experience. The successful applicant will have experience in the field of Hematopathology. Responsibilities include diagnostic reporting of hematopoietic tissue specimens, interpretation of flow cytometry studies, active interaction with clinical colleagues, interfacing with our molecular diagnostic laboratories, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. Teaching and mentoring of medical students, pathology residents and fellows will be an integral component of the position. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education, research, and clinical care. American Board of Pathology certification required in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology. Subspecialty certification in Hematology (Hematopathology) highly preferred. Candidates should be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The primary practice location is the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) but will also entail clinical service at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) as part of the Joint Program in Hematopathology, thus affording the successful candidate a broad exposure to clinical material at two nationally recognized pediatric and adult hospitals. These two institutions share a single, compact campus, fostering an outstanding environment for collaborative clinical, translational and basic research. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has made major investments in next generation sequencing-based diagnostics at both CHOP and Penn, and numerous clinical trials, such as adoptive T cell therapy for adult and childhood leukemias, afford hematopathologists numerous opportunities for scholarly work in cutting-edge basic and translational research efforts. Faculty in the clinician-educator track must be outstanding diagnosticians and are expected to demonstrate a strong record or potential in clinical, translational or collaborative research.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense.

The University of Pennsylvania and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia are EOEs. Minorities/Women/Individuals with disabilities/Protected Veterans are encouraged to apply.
