Have you ever had a frustrating interaction with a patient or family member? Are there some patients with whom interactions seem to be particularly difficult? None of us are immune to these kinds of encounters. However, with the help of certain communication strategies, these interactions may be made less difficult. In this session, we will review communication skills and techniques that may make your difficult patient encounters go more smoothly. Please come with examples of your difficult patient scenarios! Session taught by Dr. Carol Chou, Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, who has been trained in American Academy on Communication in Healthcare (AACH) patient communication techniques.
