Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to Deliver Penn Annual Global Distinguished Lecture
Pakistani documentarian Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will deliver the annual Global Distinguished Lecture at the University of Pennsylvania on Thursday, April 18, at 6 p.m. in the Harrison Auditorium of Penn Museum, 33rd and Spruce streets.
Her film “Saving Face,” which won the 2012 Academy Award for Best Documentary -- Short Subject, will also be screened followed by a reception in Cafe 58 in Irvine Auditorium, 34th and Spruce streets.
Presented by Penn’s Africa Center, Center for East Asian Studies, Middle East Center and South Asia Center, the event aims to promote the discussion of issues of global prominence.
A recipient of Academy and Emmy awards for her incisive documentaries, Obaid-Chinoy was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2012. More information about the filmmaker is at http://sharmeenobaidfilms.com/.
