Preparing Written Materials for the Academic Job Market – Science, Math and Engineering
Monday, 23rd September, 4-5:30pm, B21, Stiteler Hall
This program is part of the 25th Academic Career Conference (ACC). You can find a list of the full of ACC programs attached to this email or by viewing our calendar page.
Join us for this workshop where we will be taking a closer look at the written materials you may be called upon to submit over the course of an academic job search. These materials are instrumental in representing your research and teaching abilities, your academic accomplishments, your future potential as a faculty member, and even your likely fit with a certain type of institution. We will focus on:
· cover letters
· statements of research
· teaching philosophies
· and more…
Paying attention to the content of these documents, and to the way your information is formatted, will be very important. You can even look for ways to tailor your materials for each application you submit, or even to the different types of academic institutions that you are interested in.
Bring a copy of your draft CV and take advantage of the group Q&A session at the end to get some of your general questions answered, and then schedule an individual appointment afterwards by calling 215 898 7530.
You can find samples and more information on CVs, cover letters, and other academic job application materials on the Career Services website: www.vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/writtenmaterials/
The PowerPoint used in this workshop will be available on the program calendar a few days after the workshop. There is no need to pre-register for this workshop.
You can view the complete schedule of workshops and speaker programs for Master's students and doctoral students and postdocs on the Career Services website, and we look forward to seeing you at some of the other Academic Career Conference programs as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of this program series.
