David Y. Cooper, MD, professor emeritus of surgical research died of respiratory failure weeks before his 89th birthday on August 2, 2013. He was a resident at Waverly Heights, where his wife of over 50 years (Cynthia Laughlin Cooper) remains in assisted living. Dr. Cooper came to Penn Medicine as one of Dr. Ravdin's last chief residents after graduating from UNC. He was convinced to become a researcher and his work on the isotope P-450 was internationally recognized. His daughter, Allison Cooper Hamilton and her husband Andy met as undergraduates at Penn and now reside in Doylestown.
Fr.Peter Vanderveen presided over an immediate-family graveside service at the Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr on Dr. Cooper's 89th birthday - Wednesday, August 14, 2013.
