Dear ASEF members:
We have just sadly learned of the death of Nicholas A. Kefalides, MD, Ph.D, on Friday, Dec. 6th. He was a truly remarkable scientist, educator and clinician who succumbed to pulmonary fibrosis, a disease he dealt with for the last few years, but which never stopped him from living a full and energetic life. Nick was Emeritus Professor of Medicine, and one of the pillars of ASEF, serving on Council since its inception in 2004, and as President from 2010-2012. His guiding spirit for the work of the organization and his wisdom, dedication and support of ASEF will profoundly be missed. Nick continued to attend ASEF meetings and was present for our group picture in September shown on our web site. A complete obituary will be provided at a later date. A notice appears today in the Sunday Inquirer and can be found online. The funeral mass is Tuesday 11AM at The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke, 35 N. Malin Road, Broomall, and friends and colleagues are invited to pay their respects to the family in the preceding hour in the church. Interment is at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania, National Processing Center, PO Box 7000, Albert Lea, MN 56007-8000.
Anna T. Meadows, ASEF President
Jeanne C. Myers, ASEF President-elect
