Committees
The Association supports and carries out its missions with the help of, at present, five working committees which are briefly characterized here. For more information, click on the names of the committee chairs.
- Retirement and Education Committee:
This committee organizes lectures, seminars, and discussion sessions on issues related to retirement planning (including health care, benefits, and insurance issues). It aims to improve further on methods to establish and maintain contacts among the ASEF members by email. It is also responsible for the preparation and distribution of web-based information, and does so in close collaboration with the other members of the Executive Council and the Office of Faculty Affairs in the School of Medicine.
Chair: Heinz Schleyer - Data Collection Committee:
The task assigned to this committee is the monitoring and collecting of statistical information of our Senior and Emeritus Faculty, with the aim to use it in the planning of creative future programs for ASEF. Click here to see Survey Results (2008) and Survey Summary(2008).
Chair: Marvin E. Steinberg - Service Committee:
The assignment of this committee is to recruit and support members who are interested in volunteering time and services to the Medical School, UPHS, the University of Pennsylvania and the community around us in a wide range of ways. Current possibilities range from service in The Clinic for The Homeless in West Philadelphia, to helping out in a school, serving as adviser consultant in a hospice, or helping junior faculty as mentors, or with the planning of research projects. Chair: Arthur Whereat and David McCarthy - Programs Committee:
This committee has been created to provide opportunities for the Senior and Emeritus Faculty to meet in selected social settings. They present speakers of interest to the association, arrange business meetings and organize the festive Autumn dinner to honor and celebrate those colleagues who have recently attained emeritus status.
Co-Chairs: Anna Meadows and Patrick S. Pasquariello - Committee for Luncheon Meetings:
This committee is responsible for our well-liked series of monthly luncheon meetings where a wide variety of interesting topics are presented and discussed. The meetings take place in the Lenape Room of the University Club in The Hilton Hotel at Penn. Details are announced by email to the ASEF members; reservations are accepted by email or phone.
Chair: Nick Kefalides
