the application process
Thank you for your interest in the 2012 Built Environment Assessment Training (BEAT-Plus) Institute. We welcome all applicants, but please be aware that the process is competitive. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the BEAT Institute staff for more information.
Requirements for applications will remain the same.
Selection criteria:
- Background and skills relevant to the Institute
- Fit with career goals and activities
- Opportunity to use training and skills learned in future research
- Letter(s) of recommendation
- Diversity of entire pools of applicants - geographic, interest (nutrition v. physical activity), target population of research, racial/ethnic background, etc.
Who Should Attend
Faculty, Post-Docs, PhD Candidates, Government Employees, Practitioners
Cost
- Tuition $400 (plus food, travel and lodging)
- A limited number of Tuition/Travel scholarships are available for those who qualify (see below).
Application Procedures
The 2012 BEAT-Plus Institute will be hosted at Harvard University in Boston, MA from June 24-29, 2012.
The application deadline is February 1, 2012. All applicants will be notified of decision by March 28, 2012. Selected applicants are required to confirm acceptance of selection within 2 weeks of notification.

To be considered complete, the application must include:
- Completed BEAT Application (see below)
- Personal Statement
- CV or Resume
- Minimum of one letter of recommendation
Tuition/Travel Scholarship Details and Availability
- The Institute offers both tuition and travel scholarships which are need-based. A justification of need is required.
- A select number of scholarships have been reserved for international applicants.
- We encourage participants to seek outside funding and partial scholarships when possible.
- The scholarship request form is due at the same time as the BEAT application, February 1, 2011.
Items to note when applying for a scholarship:
- Tuition is $400. You may request any amount up to $400.
- Airfare should be round-trip, economy fare.

Important Deadlines
