Dr. Richard K. Assoian named Interim Director of BGS

Susan Ross, PhD, Associate Dean for graduate education and
director of the Biomedical Graduate Studies will be on sabbatical from February
2012 – January 2013. Rick Assoian, PhD, professor of Pharmacology, has been
named Interim Director of BGS during this period.
Dr. Assoian’s
involvement with graduate education at Penn has been extensive. In addition to
co-directing classes in both the CAMB and Pharmacology Graduate Groups, Rick
chaired admissions for the Cell Biology and Physiology (CBP) subgroup within
CAMB for three years, and he currently chairs admissions for the Pharmacology
Graduate Group. He sits on the CAMB curriculum committee, the executive
committees of both the CBP and Pharmacology Graduate Groups, and the BGS
Advisory Committee. Additionally, Rick is a BGS representative to the Council of
Graduate Faculties, an advisory body within the Provost's office that is
responsible for review of graduate groups and education throughout the
University.
