Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics

The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Assistant, Associate, and/or Full Professor positions in the tenure track. Rank will be commensurate with experience. The successful applicant will have experience in the field of biochemistry and biophysics with a focus on developing quantitative understanding of regulatory mechanisms in biology, especially in the broad areas of metabolism, enzymology, glycobiology, mitochondrial biochemistry and function, nucleic acid biophysics, or metallobiochemistry. Responsibilities include establishing a vigorous and independently funded research program while supervising and mentoring students with diverse backgrounds, as well as contributing to the graduate and medical school educational missions. The new faculty member will have a strong quantitative background in biochemistry and biophysics, and experience with quantitative experimental and/or computational approaches. We seek individuals with a strong record of independent accomplishments, who will interact productively both with colleagues within the Department and across the Penn Medicine and University of Pennsylvania campus. Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D or equivalent degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education and research.

Research in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics strives to understand molecular mechanisms of key biological and pathological processes and their physical and chemical underpinnings — drawing on a wide range of disciplines. The Department is home to the Eldridge Reeves Johnson Foundation and comprises 28 primary faculty, including members of the National Academy, Royal Society, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Review of complete applications will begin November 15, 2012.
