- Recycle waste
- Reuse shopping bags
- Buy products in bulk (cheaper and helps to eliminate packaging waste )
- Use energy saving bulbs like compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)
- Unplug electrical appliances when not in use
- Walk, bike, carpool or use public transport. If driving, use fuel efficient cars. This will help you to reduce your carbon footprint
- Drink filtered tap water instead of buying bottled water. This is cost effective and eliminates plastic waste
- If you eat meat, try replacing few meals with meat free meals. This will not only save your money but also benefit your health and environment
- Borrow books and DVDs from libraries instead of buying
- Reuse and recycle whenever possible, donate items instead of discarding
Work/Lab

- Email wherever possible. Print only when necessary, use two –sides copies
- Turn off your computers at the end of the day
- Bring your mugs to get coffee refills. Most of the cafes (e.g. Wawa, and Au Bon Pain) will give you discounts on coffee refills
- Bring your lunch from home in reusable containers, this will save you money and cut down waste
- Try not buying bottled water, refill your water bottle
- Try minimizing use of disposable utensils. Keep your own mug at workplace
- Refill printer cartridges
- Eliminate use of radioactivity wherever possible
- Try replacing toxic chemicals with less toxic substitutes
