Education

Medical Microbiology Institute, Univ. of Goettingen, Goettingen, Germany: (Microbiology), 1974.

Medical School, Georg August Univ., Goettingen, Germany: MD, 1977.

Research Interests

The laboratory focuses on pre-clinical development of vaccines to infectious diseases and cancer emphasizing basic immunological mechanisms that influence vaccine efficacy.

Key words: HIV Vaccine, HPV vaccines, Rabies Virus vaccines, Influenza Virus.

Description of Research

The laboratory develops and explores vaccines based on E1-deleted adenoviral recombinants or adeno-associated viral recombinants to rabies virus, human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 and influenza A virus.

Rotation Projects

  1. Characterize the T cell response to a transgene delivered by an adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector.

  2. Characterize T cells that migrate upon vaccination to the  genital tract

  3. Genital T cell responses

  4. Interactions between AAV vectors and cells of the innate immune system

  5. Development of adjuvants based on  molecules that block immuno-inhibitory pathways

  6. Characterize T or B cell responses of aged mice to vaccination with an influenza A virus vaccine
