Nancy Gambescia, PhD
Nancy Gambescia, Ph.D. is an author, educator and therapist. She is a member of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research, and a certified sexologist and diplomate of the American Board of Sexology.
Dr. Gambescia is committed to teaching about this vital and often overlooked aspect of the human experience to psychiatry residents at Penn. Sexual issues are important to the individual at all stages of the life cycle, and sexual functioning is a lifelong capacity. Sexual problems are common and often embedded in the dynamics of relationship; research indicates that sexual and relationship satisfaction are correlated. Furthermore, disruptions in sexual functioning can be the harbinger of an underlying medical disorder.
Dr. Gambescia completed her clinical training at the Council for Relationships (formerly Marriage Council of Philadelphia) and her doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania. She has presented at professional conferences in the United States and abroad. Currently, she is the director of the post-graduate clinical program in Sex Therapy at Council for Relationships, Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Gambescia is an Approved Supervisor for the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.
Dr. Gambescia has coauthored four books in addition to multiple journal articles and chapters in textbooks, which focus on relationship and sexual issues.
