Mission and Vision
The Center for Couples and Adult Families
- Provides help to couples and families who seek therapy for difficulties with life transitions or chronic conflict. Couple conflict is often a source of deep pain for partners. Conflict between parents and their adult children is often confusing, sometimes heartbreaking. We offer practical ways of understanding conflict, supporting renewed closeness and developing resilience and joy.
- We support psychiatric services for patients within the Department of Psychiatry. When a person is dealing with a psychiatric disorder, close family members are also affected. We offer education, support, and if appropriate, therapy for the family system in order to support the patient's recovery, help family members care for both the patient and themselves, and increase the family's sense of competence and connection.
What do we mean by family?
Families come in many different forms -- single parent, two parents of same or opposite gender, stepfamilies, families of three and four generations, families of choice. We welcome all families who see themselves as a connected group of people who would like support and help.
