Fees and Payment

Cost of Treatment

The cost for the initial intake evaluation is $400. This comprehensive appointment typically lasts 2-2.5 hours and includes a thorough interview with a doctoral candidate therapist as well as a consultation with a licensed clinician, resulting in a thorough diagnostic report. (Note: Sometimes this appointment runs shorter or longer than 2 hours, depending on the level of complexity of the problems being assessed).

Thereafter, the cost for each therapy session with a senior, licensed clinician is $200 or 225, depending on who you see. Patients have the option of seeing a therapist-in-training for a reduced fee, either $125 for a post-graduate (pre-licensed) therapist, or $50 for a pre-doctoral therapist or a 3rd or 4th year psychiatry resident. If you designate that you wish to see a therapist-in-training for your regular, ongoing sessions, the cost of your initial intake evaluation will be reduced to $150. The cost for a group therapy session with Dr. Treadwell is $60. Payment for each session is required at the time of service.

For Penn employees and their families who are covered under Penn's Penn Care plan, there is a $20 co-pay per visit for services at CCT. For Penn employees and their families who are covered under Penn’s Aetna POS II plan, there is a $30 co-pay per visit for services at CCT. For Penn students who are covered solely under the Penn student plan (Aetna), there is a $10 co-pay per visit. No referral is required. All of the above-mentioned co-pays apply to both the initial diagnostic evaluation and the regular therapy sessions alike. If you are covered by the Penn student plan (Aetna) but you also have another insurance (e.g., your parent's plan), you will have to pay the full cost of your appointment, then submit for out-of-network reimbursement from your parent's plan, then submit whatever isn't covered to the Penn student plan (Aetna).

Even if you are not a Penn or CHOP employee (or dependent) or a Penn student (or dependent), you are in-network if you have an Aetna plan.

Note: If your Aetna insurance is the High Deductible plan, and you have not yet met your deductible, the contractual cost to you (for each session) will be high. Please discuss this matter with one of our billing administrators to better understand your obligations and options.

Patients should make every effort to keep all of their appointments, or to cancel with at least 24 hours notice. Otherwise, patients may be billed for missed sessions. This expense is not covered by insurance.

Phone calls to the therapist are not billed, as long as the calls are brief and infrequent. Calls that cumulatively last more than 15 minutes between sessions are billed as half-sessions, and calls that cumulatively last more than 30 minutes are billed as full sessions. Telephone sessions are not reimbursed by insurance.

We recognize that therapy can be an expensive endeavor, and we will collaborate with our patients to see that every effort is made to make therapy affordable and time-effective.
