Privacy Information

New patients discuss (by phone) the details of scheduling their first appointment with Dr. Cory F. Newman, or Rebecca Keiser, or the administrative assistant. If an intake assessment is scheduled, this information is given to the clinicians who meet with the patient. At the evaluation, patients are then registered with the University of Pennsylvania Health System, if they have not previously done so. This registration does not state that you are a cognitive therapy patient.

In general, information that you share with your therapist is confidential, with the following exceptions:

  • As required by law, such as a special court order, or when a patient is planning to harm himself or others, or is abusing a child.
  • In order for the therapist to receive supervisory consultation.
  • In response to the patient's permission to release information to relatives, new therapists, attorneys, insurance companies, etc. (a signed release must have the patient’s original signature).
