The Penn AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) carries out clinical trials studying new treatments against HIV infection, AIDS, and AIDS-related opportuniistic infections. For additional information regarding current studies conducted by the Penn ACTU, visit the AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU) website.

Specimen Repository Access
To request specimen repository access, please complete the Query Request Form and forward it to Debbie.Gudonis@uphs.upenn.edu
Collection of frozen or fresh specimens from HIV infected or at-risk individuals is available upon request. Specimens that can be procured include whole blood, apheresis products, gastrointestinal lymph tissue, semen, cervicovaginal lavage fluid, and stool for microbiome analysis. Assistance can also be provided to procure harder to obtain specimens such as cerebrospinal fluid, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and lymph node biopsies.
The Specimen Repository is correlated with the Clinical Core Database and metrics which include:
- Demographics
- Medical History
- Antiviral Treatments
- Adherence Questions
- Hepatitis Treatment
- Metabolics
- Clinical Laboratory Measures
- Alcohol and Drug Use
- Sexual History
- Depression
For a further look at the available information, you can download the Case Report Form (CRF) that patients are given at intake and the Follow-up CRF that is done at subsequent visits.
