Dr. Ted Abel's lab focuses primarily on studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms of long-term memory storage with a focus on the mammalian hippocampus. In addition to studying the genetic, biochemical, and molecular pathways involved in long-term memory storage, Dr. Abel's lab is also interested in studying processes that can modulate long-term memory. Some of these processes include stress, sleep deprivation, autism, and neuropsychiatric disorders. Dr. Abel's research primarily uses genetically modified mice, behavioral studies, in vitro electrophysiology, and molecular and biochemical assays to investigate the cellular and molecular basis of behavior.
